For starters I am a huge Eddie Izzard fan, so when I heard recently that he is starring in a new TV series, I was giddy. The Riches, has been showing in the US for a while now, but two weeks ago Canada's wonderful Showcase began showing the series. Two episodes have been aired so far. Eddie, a real life transvestite, plays the 'straight' Wayne married to Minnie Driver's Dahlia. They have three children: "a boy, a girl, and a ...", yeah the youngest boy likes to wear girl clothing ;) The series is really hard to sum up, but it's definitely growing on me. Next episode is Wednesday night and I can't wait!!

Last night I watched Little Children, starring Kate Winslet and the very yummy Patrick Wilson. If you get a chance and want to watch something that is a challenge to watch, catch Patrick in Hard Candy. It is quite disturbing.

Anyway Little Children was also a bit of a difficult watch. The unhappiness and secrets of living in suburbia. Kate's character is really a neglectful mother because of her own emptiness and unhappiness with her life. She looks to Brad (Patrick's character) to fill her up.

I have seen some movies lately. "Blood and Chocolate", based on a werewolf series (I think??). I hated it! The acting sucked and the dialogue sucked. It was filmed in Romania, so it was beautiful to look at and the special effects of when they transform from human to wolf was interesting. But it was predictable crap, in my humble opinion!! I went with one of my adolescent daughters, she liked it. Go figure ;)

The second movie I saw was "Pan's Labyrinth". I saw it last night with both adolescent daughters. What an amazing film! Visually it was stunning. The two intertwining stories were very heavy and quite upsetting. It takes place in Spain after the second war. The main character is a ~12 year old girl who has a highly developed fantasy life to cope with her reality??? Her step-dad is a sadistic captain in charge of rounding up and killing (torturing!) rebels of the state. It was subtitled (I wish I could understand Spanish). I would highly recommend this one. My daughters really wanted to see it. They found it a very heavy watch, but were impressed with it too :)
