back from vacation...
I got home last night from my week in the Mayan Riviera :) I ended up at Sandos Caracol, the resort I figured I would be at. The resort was lovely, the food was quite good and the drinks were great!! The only complaint I had was that the ocean bottom was covered in huge rocks (I know!!) so that sucked :( The water was warm and very clear, it's just that I couldn't swim in it. I did not have water shoes only water flip flops and they didn't work to well on the big rocks. I hung out on the beach and read or went to two different pools.

I went on two excursions. One to Coba, ruin and Mayan village in the jungle. It was very interesting but sooooooooo hot! The second one was to Xel-ha, a resort on the ocean where there is amazing snorkling. I also spent 3 hours in Playa del Carmen, which was long enough!!

Overall I had a great time. I slept, relaxed, read, drank lots of alcohol and ate quite a bit. The weather was HOT and HUMID!

The down side was that I was incredibly lonely, more so than I would have thought. It was worse at night and eating alone. I was kind of "adopted" by a husband and wife and their 18 year old daughter for part of my trip. They were on the same flight as me and at the same resort, small world. So I ate some dinners with them.

I was very happy to get home yesterday. Today I am feeling some of the 'post-holiday-blues' and tomorrow I am back at work :(

Hey! Glad you enjoyed the holiday though it sucks about feeling lonesome. :( I know exactly what you mean about those post-holday blues cus I'm the same.

Missed you. It's SO quiet around here just now. Sigh.

The post-holiday blues are not fun :( The lonesome part is hanging around me like a black cloud.

I missed you while you were gone too. BTW I read three of the books you reviewed: Dream Boy (broke my heart that one), Bareback (reminded me of a harlequin romance!), Clay's Way (this one was strange). I have three more of your reviews to read that I ordered.

Jim Grimsley is an amazing writer and that little book his finest achievement I think, though yeah, heartbreaking in the extreme. You might enjoy Comfort & Joy too, also by him. Bareback is indeed like a gay Harlequin, though more explicit than the ones I read as a teenager for sure. The author of Clay's Way has a new one out which has had good reviews...I read a few books too on holiday, not all gay related (a biography of Robespierre for e.g., the French Revolution being a special interest of mine since university days). The Kite Runner is an awesome novel, definitely worth reading, about Afghanistan from the early 70s to date.

I will look for Grimsley's other book. I really liked his writing style. There is something wonderful to be said about reading explicit gay slash while on the beach - very hot! ;)

Argh! How frustrating about the rocks! I'm glad it was a good time aside from the loneliness. I imagine I would have felt the same way, but you went! You did it! Seriously, i think that' a big deal. *hugs*

Yes I did it :) I am really glad I went. I will try to find someone to go with in the future. I don't want to travel alone. I was cursing the rocks ;)

Im so glad you're bacck! And had you taken me along, you wouldn't have been lonely-- SEEE???? LOL.

I've missed you immensely, and am happy to see your posts again.

Btw- How long was your trip? Americans take 3-5 day trips, but in Cancun I noticed Brits and others taking TWO WEEK trips! That must be sooo expensive!

We could have made babies-- gay male babies! LOL. Then when they became of age, we could play with them. lmao

Glad you're back and that, overall, a good time was had. I applaud you for dealing with heat. I can't handle heat/humid at all. I would've stayed holed up in my air conditioned hotel room and never come out!

It's easy dealing with the heat when you can jump in an ocean or swimming pool every 5 minutes ;)

I am glad I went :)
